Description
This coin was most likely struck at Cardia, also spelled Kardia, an important city of the Chersonese. The lion was a popular beast renowned for its power and hunting prowess. Lions have been depicted in Greek art for centuries before coins were minted. Only half of the lion is shown, perhaps to indicate that it was half a denomination. This artifact is hand set in a 14kt gold ring size 13.
